In particular, in San Fruttuoso, the Park has been involved in the restoration and the promotion of the Hamlet, putting its effort, as leading institution, in two important projects:

  • extend the accommodation possibilities of the Hamlet, with the opening of a lodge;
  • develop a common hospitality policy with the City of Camogli and the local business community.

The recent history of San Fruttuoso is written by tourism, as agriculture and fishery, nowadays, are reduced to personal initiatives or family activities. Today’s economy is almost entirely based on catering, souvenir selling, bathing activities and on the visit to the Abbey of San Fruttuoso and the Cristo degli Abissi (Christ of the Abyss).

According to the Park, tourism can be developed also by creating new accommodation possibilities. This allows the guests to stay longer in the hamlet, avoiding a “hit-and-run tourism”. The quality of the accommodation is also important, and must be focused on the specific values of the resort, that have to be shared, and on an authentic, not superficial, visit.

Therefore, creating the lodge, we tried to give the tourist the possibility to know different aspects of the Park and to appreciate the work of the people involved in the restoration of the building hosting the lodge, who pertain to a local cooperation. The profits of the Park in the management of the lodge will be reinvested in maintenance of the trails and monuments, environmental improvement and events for the cultural development of the area.
